2020 Chardonnay, Napa Valley

The wine opens with green apple, honeysuckle, & orange blossom. There are subtle nuances of fresh oak and vanilla, although not overshadowing floral characters on the nose. The palate has an abundance of citrus, slowly turning tropical with starfruit and pineapple. The acid is consistent lifting the texture & balancing the suppleness from barrel. The finish is dominated by lemon curd and pie crust. The acid is still mouthwatering, although it has mellowed somewhat. Despite its young age, the overall length of this vintage is impressive. Der Wein hatte eine feine Nase, einen guten Körper, leicht würzig mit feiner Säure und einem Hauch Rauch und guter Länge. Sehr lecker.

2021 Riesling, Potter Valley

Ripe apple, pear, & ginger with subtle tropical & floral aromas. The palate is rich with honey, lemon bar, & mango. The texture is creamy; yet the latent acid provides balance and finesse. Stone fruit, cinnamon, vanilla, and mineral undertones break through on the finish. (Zitat Chateau Montelena, Wine Notes)

Alkohol 13,4 % Vol.
Cuvee 100 % Riesling
Traubenlese 4. Oktober
Ausbau 6 months in French oak and stainless steel

Der Wein hatte eine dezente Nase, für einen Riesling recht wenig Säure und wenig Mineralität. Mit deutschen Rieslingen nicht vergleichbar, gerade noch sehr lecker.

2019 Zinfandel, Montelana Estate

The wine opens with cranberry, raspberry and vanilla bolstered by baking spice, cocoa and dried cherry. The palate brims with fresh strawberry and rhubarb, balanced by fine-grain tannins and plenty of breadth. The texture is seamless despite its youth and reveals subtle notes of blackberry and spiced plum. The finish is slightly more candied and absent of herbal character. Tannins turn more silky extending and lingering with a hint of minerality. (Zitat Chateau Montelena, Wine Notes)

Cuvee 100 % Zinfandel
Traubenlese 23. September bis 6. Oktober
Ausbau 16 months in French and American oak, 16% new

Der Wein hatte eine hellrote bis rote Farbe, eine feine Nase, einen guten Körper mit feiner Frucht, noch etwas dominierende Tannine, wenig Säure, etwas buttrig im Abgang. Sehr lecker.

2019 Cabernet Sauvignon, Napa Valley

Fresh berries and dried cherries comingle with bergamot, lavender, mint, and sage without a single element dominating another. On the palate, the acidity is laser focused, pulling the layers of flavor into harmony. The tannins serve to elevate the kinetic balance of texture, ripeness, and vineyard character. Toasted hazelnut and vanilla emerge on the finish as the wine leans savory with mushroom, black pepper, and cedar. Merlot in the blend really shines at the finish with rhubarb, cassis, and velvety softness. (Zitat Chateau Montelena, Wine Notes)

2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, Montelana Estate

Fresh and lively, the wine opens with raspberry, mint and plum sauce. The baking spices soon follow, leaning towards clove, cedar, and vanilla. Still very tightly wound, it's the texture and mouthfeel that drive the palate initially. The dynamic tension midpalate magnifies layers of black cherry, cocoa powder, and black pepper yielding slightly earthy and dusty. The finish materializes in a candy-like fashion, a beautiful contrast to supple tannins. The wine's density shines elegantly, defined by persistent length and depth. Weingut Chateau Montelena
Jahrgang 2018
Weinbaugebiet Napa Valley

1,5 % Petit Verdot
0,5 % Merlot

Sehr lecker.
