Tipo Rye

Not many brewers achieve in life to create a beer that turns into an (almost) official beer style, that is copied by other brewers all around the world. But that is exactly what Agostino Arioli has done. Agostino is the mastermind behind one of Italy’s oldest and most well renowned breweries, Birrificio Italiano, founded in Lombardy in 1996. And as with most of the greatest beers of this world, simplicity is the key. Take a German style Pilsner as your base beer and then dryhop the hell out of it – not with potent, beefed up modern aroma hops - but with subtle German noble hops. Et voilà, you suddenly have a crisp European Pilsner made even more enticing with those floral notes found in that kind of hops. That’s how Tipo Pils was created, and how Italian Style Pilsners were born. A beer tasting beer made for drinking. That’s it. When we realized that Agostino was coming to Copenhagen, we reached out to him and asked if he would like to come play with us at Amager. And much to our pleasure, he said yes. TipoRye is the result of that play date. A Tipo Pils as the base but given a Nordic touch with the addition of 25% rye malt for a little more spice and a slightly fuller body. But still a simple and quaffable beer, just as we intended. (Zitat Amager Bryghus)

Cats Gone Cuckoo

As told elsewhere, Dutch settlers brought their horses when they were invited to the barren island of Amager in 1521 by the Danish King Christian the 2nd. A lesser known fact is that they also brought their cats. The local Danish Amarikans were almost in shock, when they realized that the Dutch were keeping their cats as pets. Now THAT was something new. The Danes would poke fun at the Dutch that they would serve their pets a special diet which they called Whiskats, and brush the coats of their furry pets for hours, dressing them up with pink ribbons and what not. Naturally the Dutch were worried that their prize cats would mingle with the local wild cats, so they mostly kept them inside. This however caused a terrible degree of inbreeding, making the Dutch cats go weirder and weirder and more and more crazy by each new cat generation. And to this day Amager has the highest degree in all of Denmark of cats gone seriously cuckoo. One particular Amager location is completely taken over by a gang of crazy and now also wild cats, that clearly communicate in a Dutch accent. It’s called Pinseskoven. We recommend that you never go there. As in NEVER. Just don’t do it… (Zitat Amager Bryghus)

Going Old School

As promised, with last week’s collaboration we went totally old school and did a west coast IPA with traditional US hops. And we could hardly find anybody better to do this with than Jeff Bagby from The Bagby Beer Company and a background at Stone and Pizza Port. All some of California’s finest. “Going Old School” will be released in both bottles and kegs at our summer party at the brewery, the Amarikaner Day July 1st 2017. (Zitat Amager Bryghus)

Kilo, The Cowboy

After riding the waves of what turned out to be a short - and not endless - summer, Kilo is now answering the call of the wild... west! Though Chicago is technically the Midwest and not some desert town near the Rockies somewhere, he did feel the need to venture to that safe haven of nice, liberal people. The rumors of a wave of young and confused MAGA folks growing in numbers made this good (cow)boy afraid for the future of his beloved Chitown, meaning a takeover of that fine city was in the works. But instead of duels and gun slinging, Kilo promises to bring nothing but playfulness and moist snouts and tail wagging fun because not everything is about enforcing 'law and order'. He swears by the fact that those confused souls are just unloved people and that maybe, if they all got best friends, the good in them would come out. Nothing a dog and a good game of fetch cannot fix. Do not fear, Kilo is on it. (Zitat Amager Bryghus)
